On a windy March weekend, 95 volunteers joined NDOW staff to build a guzzler with 18,400 gallons of rainwater storage capacity to benefit wildlife.
On March 7–8, the New Muddy #9 Water Development in the Muddy Mountains just north of Las Vegas was successfully completed. This project was a major collaborative effort supported by the Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn, GOHUNT, Nevada Bighorns Unlimited (NBU), Wildlife and Habitat Improvement of Nevada (WHIN). An impressive 95 volunteers joined NDOW staff to construct this new desert bighorn sheep water development, which boasts an 18,400‑gallon capacity. The development will supplement the existing Flipper guzzler and is designed to reduce the need for water hauls during drought years.
The volunteers' time and travel were valued at over $73,000 for this project. Thanks to the Pittman-Roberston Act and sportsmen around the country, NDOW will receive nearly $220,000 to be directed to wildlife conservation, habitat restoration, and hunter education programs in the state of Nevada.
